SWA Selected Projects

Situated just across the bay from Hong Kong, the city of Shenzhen has transformed from a small fishing town of 30,000 to a booming city of over 10 million people since 1980. SWA’s master plan and its resulting projects mitigate 30 years of aggressive bay fill, restore acres of shoreline and marsh habitat, deepen the bay to reverse siltation, and provide sensitive public access to these naturalized features. The revived tributaries' saltwater-freshwater blend supports wildlife and reinstates a sense of place—nurturing the growth of mangroves, sea grasses, and salt marsh and increasing pedestrian access to these areas.
